Some of the many birds that live here.

the Hoot Monster

Picture
Hootie is a Moustache parrot with a huge attitude and an ear splitting scream! She loves chewing through perches, destroying toys and causing bedlam. She loves attention and if she thinks she's not getting enough will soon let you know all about it!

Riki & Rata

Picture
Red crowned Kakariki.

Byrd

Picture
I found Byrd living in a small rusty cage on someone's veranda. He was being fed solely on sunflower seed. I had to buy him. He's lived here for a number of years now and is more than happy in an aviary and enjoys the varied diet that is offered here. He loves to try new food!

Roo

Picture
Roo is a crippled Barraband. She can fly but prefers to climb as her twisted feet make safe landings a bit difficult. She has now been moved into a 'flightless' aviary, which has been set up to help crippled birds learn to climb instead of fly.

*Sadly Roo died before
our move to Christchurch.
RIP Grumpy girl.*

Louie

Picture
Louie looking cute and angelic where in reality he had the attitude of a feathered pit bull. I've seen this little guy beat up the ringnecks and even try it on with the conures! At feeding time, you had to be really quick at removing your fingers to be quicker than Louie!

RIP Louie

Joey

Picture
One of the Barrabands. He tries very hard to make Mousey like him but so far she treats him with disdain! Poor Joey.

Sparky

Another one of the 'Seniors'

Polly

Picture
Polly, a Crimsonwing parrot,  had one wing damaged by her parents as a baby and was never able to fly. She was the gentlest of birds and I miss her every day.

RIP Pretty Polly.

which we measure the true

'Seniors'.

Gizmo

Picture
Gizmo was living in a canary cage and has twisted legs and spine. She can still fly and lives happily in an aviary with Byrd. He quite often brings food to her which they will share together.

Olive

Picture
Here's my naked Maroon Belly conure, Olive. After trying many 'cures' we've decided that enjoying being naked is probably what it's all about. We've come to an agreement ....... I won't stress about it as long as she's happy!
Olive came to me a few years ago when she first began plucking. She would have to be one of my 'favourites' here at Dragonflight. Even though she is not hand tamed she is a real sweetie. We play dancing games and she can do an amazing 'snake charmer' weave!

Oscar

Picture
Oscar is a Maroon Belly conure. He's trying to 'kick' the plucking habit and unlike 'naked' Olive, just looks rather scruffy most of the time  nstead of bald.
*the 'Big Move' seems to have worked magic on Oscar and he has, so far, stopped plucking.*

Odin & Thor

Picture
The very first pied cockateils at Dragonflight.
