The Littlest Cockatoo.

This story is about a white bird.

It starts nearly a year ago when I looked after some budgies for some people who were moving into the district and had no aviary set up. The birds stayed for a few months until their new home was ready.

The next part of the story is about a sulphur crested cockatoo who was looking for a new home. A friend of mine had told me that the elderly lady who owned it was finding it a bit too much to cope with. I had told her that if need be,
it could come to us.

I had been away from work for a couple of days and was informed on my return that a man had been looking for me about something to do with a white bird. I quickly
rang Pete to say that I thought the cockatoo was about to arrive
(much to his horror because he's in charge of housing around this place!).

Imagine his delight and amusement when I arrived home with the littlest white 'cockatoo' you've ever seen. The budgie people had given me a white baby to
thank me for looking after their birds. Boy did I feel like an idiot!!

Rupert died last night

My little white 'cockatoo' never really grew all that much. He decided he was really a girl even though Rupert is a boy's name and then, just stayed little! I'll miss her and the mess she made shredding the paper that lined her cage.

My poor tiny white 'cockatoo' was only young and now PongPing is the only budgie at Dragonflight. She's going to be lonely without Rupert to squabble with.

PongPing died before the big move to Christchurch. She spent the last few months of her life enjoying the warmth of the hospital cage. She would seriously grumble at anyone who dared disturb her dozing and seemed more than content to spend her last winter grumbling, sleeping and eating.
